The key to making your event a rich and fulfilling experience for your guests is to incorporate all five senses.
VISUAL - TASTE - SOUND - SCENT - TOUCH
VISUAL - is the first thing people notice when they come into your event. Make sure it flows and is visually appealing. You want your eyes to move around the room. Having your decorations at different eye level makes things more interesting. Hanging lights, lanterns or material from the ceiling gives interest. Color and textures can make a room pop.
TASTE - Most people judge an event by the food. Make sure the food tastes good and is visually appealing too.
SOUND - Background music - nothing kills the mood more than silence. Choose nice soft music that is pleasing to ALL ages.
SCENTS - Nothing brings back memories of a great night more than a smell. Beautiful smelling flowers, candles, popurri or great smelling food work great. If your hosting a Christmas time event, pine or cinnamon scents would add to the experience.
TOUCH - is a little more difficult. It could be an activity such as this ice luge where the guests chose their flavors of drinks and then had it slide down the luge and it flowed into their cup.
Another way to incorporate touch is with wedding favors that the guests take home. This bride had pictures of each guests taken and then printed and put on thank you cards before they left.
When planning your wedding and reception try to incorporate all the senses to make your event memorable.
